Riley Palanca
ThisGen 2021 Cultural Leadership Fellow
Riley Palanca is a queer non-binary Filipinx theatre creator, spoken word artist, and arts organizer based in Montreal. Their first project of the year, Actors Reading Poe, was a collaboration between top international actors, musicians, and artists to reimagine Edgar Allan Poe for a quarantined audience. Prior to that, their Zoom play Puta Kang Hayop Ka was performed with some of the Philippines’ best queer actors, and their last “traditionally” staged play Art, Business, Coffee won first place at the 2020 Tuesday Night Cafe’s 24-Hour Playwriting Competition.
An alumnx of Playwright Workshop Montreal’s Young Creator’s Unit and a member of Writer’s Bloc Inc, they are currently completing a degree in Creative Writing from the University of the Philippines, Diliman.
