Madeline Sayet is a Mohegan theater maker who believes the stories we pass down inform our collective possible futures. For her work as a writer, director, and performer she has been named a Forbes 30 Under 30 in Hollywood & Entertainment, TED Fellow, Native American 40 Under 40, and recipient of The White House Champion of Change Award from President Obama. She is an Assistant Professor at Arizona State University, and the Executive Director of the Yale Indigenous Performing Arts Program. Her plays include: Where We Belong, The Neverland, Antigone or And Still She Must Rise Up, Daughters of Leda, Up and Down the River, and The Fish. Where We Belong is currently on a national tour produced by Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company in association with the Folger Shakespeare Library. It has been performed at The Public Theater, Shakespeare’s Globe, The Goodman Theater (Jeff Award Nomination for Best Solo Performance), Seattle Rep (Heilman & Haver Award for Best Play of the 2022-2023 Seattle Theater Season), The Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Baltimore Center Stage, Portland Center Stage, Hudson Valley Shakespeare, and Philadelphia Theatre Company. Recent directing work includes: Joy Harjo’s Wings of a Night Sky (Bard at the Gate), Tlingit Christmas Carol (Perseverance Theatre), Midsummer Night’s Dream (South Dakota Shakespeare), Henry IV (Connecticut Repertory Theatre), Whale Song (Perseverance Theatre), As You Like It (Delaware Shakespeare), The Winter’s Tale (HERE Arts), Poppea (Krannert Center, Illinois), The Magic Flute (Glimmerglass).
