Dahlia Al-Habieli is an award-winning Arab-American scenic designer. She is also a seasoned, passionate educator; she most recently served as Special Visiting Faculty in Scenic Design at the Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama. She has held faculty appointments at Albright College and Wake Forest University, and has given guest lectures and workshops for NYU, Wellesley College, University of Texas-Austin, Binghamton University, Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing Arts, and many others.

 

Dahlia’s childhood in the Middle East, undergraduate experience as an international student, and professional journey in the United States have all reinforced her commitment to the responsibilities of storytellers and arts educators as cultural stewards. She creates spaces that are invitations to conversation- evocative, eloquent spaces of possibility for actors, artists, technicians, audiences, and students.

Previous credits include designs for the Dallas Theater Center, Trinity Repertory, Playmaker’s Rep, Virginia Stage Company, Rep of St. Louis, the Wilma Theater, the Lyric Stage Company of Boston, Publick Theatre Boston, Muhlenberg College, Fordham University at Lincoln Center, Williams College, Boston Conservatory, and Harvard College.

Dahlia received her MFA in Scenic Design from the Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama and her BA from Wellesley College. She received additional training at the National Theater Institute at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, where she continued to serve as the Annual Young Playwrights Conference design mentor for over a decade.
