Christian Lapointe is the artistic director of Carte Blanche in Québec City. At the Festival TransAmériques 2015, he presented and performed a performance lasting almost three days and two nights, based on the work of Antonin Artaud. Over the years, he directed more than thirty plays and performances and has established himself as an atypical figure on the theatrical scene. Heir to the symbolist movement, the writing of his shows borrows from performance art, is conceived from and around scenic devices and flirts with video installation. His work has been presented in numerous Quebec institutions, as well as at In Avignon, the Royal Court Theatre in London, the Schaubühne’s Festival International New Drama in Berlin, and on several occasions at the National Arts Centre of Canada, the Carrefour international de théâtre in Québec City and the Festival TransAmériques in Montreal. In June 2022, he directs Not One Of These People, starring British playwright Martin Crimp, going on stage for the first time in his career. For this performance, Lapointe imagines and designs a live deepfake device that uses facial recognition to animate avatars generated by GAN – Generative adversarial network. He is also the composer of the epistolary music group LiY with playwright Simon Stephens (lyrics) and designer Laurence Dauphinais (vocals and lyric melody).
