Why Not Fall in Love with the Planet? raises over $300,000 in support of Why Not Theatre!
TORONTO, ON – October 9, 2024
On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, Why Not Theatre’s fundraising event, Why Not Fall in Love with the Planet? was a tremendous success, raising over $300,000 in support of Why Not Theatre’s mission to make things better through art, to reinvent how stories are told, and to inspire new ways of thinking about creativity and civic engagement.
The highlight of the evening was an inspiring conversation between two great Canadians, David Suzuki and Mark Carney, about the urgent need to protect the environment. Acclaimed broadcaster and community leader Valerie Pringle moderated the discussion about climate change and biodiversity loss, the challenge of reaching net zero while maintaining a strong economy, the responsibilities of our corporate and political leaders, hopes and fears for the next generation, and the critical importance of taking collective action.
After dinner, guests attended a special performance of Why Not’s What You Won’t Do For Love at the TIFF Lightbox. This hybrid live-theatre and film performance draws from real-life conversations between Drs. David Suzuki and Tara Cullis, exploring whether the love we share can inspire us to take meaningful action for our planet.
The packed event was attended by Mayor Olivia Chow, Tara Cullis, David Suzuki, Mark Carney, special guests, and business leaders from diverse sectors.
Why Not Theatre extends heartfelt gratitude to all the guests in attendance for their participation and enthusiasm. A special acknowledgement goes to the evening’s sponsors, which included our Champion Sponsors: RPIA and Crestpoint Real Estate Investments Ltd.; and Advocate Sponsors: Anonymous, Atria Development Corporation, Carpenter’s Regional Council, CBRE Limited, The Chandaria Family, Clifton Blake, Colliers International, Cooper Equipment Rentals Ltd., Crown Realty Partners, Deloitte, Enviroair, Evercore Partners, Forum Asset Management, George Weston Limited, The Green Family, Kipling Group Inc., Klick Health, KPMG, Maverix Private Equity, National Bank, Nekison Engineering and Contractors, PwC Canada, Rajeev Ruparell, Tony Pringle.
